Usually, an urban vehicle is used for last mile delivery, Follow Me mobility concept for postal delivery services has been designed to provide greater flexibility in inner city or urban areas distribution. Michael Barthels, a German industrial designer, had an idea on a distribution concept that could leverage the existing public transport infrastructure, especially for the initial delivery goods into city spaces.
If you notice, the rapid increase in trade via the internet affects the increase of traffic for package deliveries. Some of these packages are oversized and in fact can’t fit into the delivery vehicles which might cause safety risk to other road users. The objective of this project was not only to find solution to this problem but also to develop a delivery vehicle that could adapt to urban conditions.

Follow Me mobility concept for postal delivery services was developed as part of a collaborative project with the Art College Berlin and the Technical University of Berlin. The Goal was to enforce the collaboration of engineers and designers and to collectively find solutions for the usage of electric vehicles in urban spaces. After a deep analysis of the problem, a concept for the distribution of goods could be developed. The inclusion of the existing structures of public transport and of the initial distribution of the goods forms the basis of this concept. Based on these findings, a system of transport modules and a delivery vehicle was developed.
Important factors are the small size of the vehicle and the maximum flexibility of use. A key consideration was to make the operation conducted the users as simple as possible. Through the open and transparent design of Follow Me mobility concept for postal delivery services, drivers can easily jump on and off this vehicle. The theme of a tool is reflected in the design. This underlines the robustness and the function of the vehicle.
Basically Follow Me mobility concept for postal delivery services is a modular system that can be customized with a wide array of add-ons.
They’re probably going to have to add a bigger compartment to keep the mail and packages. There’s no way something with such limited storage space could be efficient in the postal service.
