Ray is a concept ambulance escort drone designed to give the patient desperate seconds they need in order to survive. It’s been more than 30 years since emergency medical system established in South Korea, yes it is developed rapidly in the past decade, yet there’s no specific plan or development for the future. Based on research, the mortality rate is 94 out of 100 emergency patients die in an ambulance, stuck in traffic.
Designed by Yungwon Kang, Ray Ambulance Escort Drone has been designed specifically to warn all vehicles ahead of ambulance to clear the path. Traditionally, the emergency system uses a traffic police to create what they often call the “miracle of Moses” where other vehicles yield the right-of-way to give up their way for emergency vehicles. Unfortunately in South Korea, this is not effective, many citizens don’t seem to realize the urgency to clear the path for an ambulance, and it can be dangerous for the traffic police as well.
As an escort drone, Ray helps warn all vehicles ahead of ambulance without risking a traffic police officer to risk traffic injury or deal with aggressive drivers.
