Alpha Concept Car : Single Seater Vehicle with Wooden Chassis

Alpha is a concept car that creates a link between a regular car and a lighter vehicle such as bicycle or a motorcycle. Due to its compact size (3000 mm length,1500 mm width, and 900 mm high ) this electrically powered single-seater vehicle would be ideal for a dynamic young population living in continuously growing cities of the future. The uniqueness of this car lies in its wooden chassis. Designed by Rustam Schogenoff, you can read his explanations about this futuristic car below.

The idea here is to replace all the complex and heavy engineering components of a vehicle by technical properties of the natural materials. One of these materials is wood. This simple material has a number of excellent building physics properties. The main ones are: strength, hardness, lightweight, elasticity, toughness, decay-resistance, and strength. It aims to smartly installed wooden limbs so that it could replace conventional chassis with complex elements such as suspensions, axles and dampers. The construction would even already incorporate all the functions of those elements. The number of technical devices used in a vehicle would be reduced, which would automatically reduce the total weight, energy consumption, the ejected gases, the energy in the production and of course the price).

Tulip Concept EV Features Modular Design to Suit Your Needs

Ognyan Bozhilov has submitted his latest personal vehicle design to Tuvie. It’s an electric personal vehicle for modern city with modular design to suit your mobility needs. You can read details explanation below.

The Tulip is not yet another electric vehicle. The way I see it’s a striving to change the idea of one’s personal mobility. I don’t think it’s enough to cope with the emissions from conventional vehicles. We have to address also the industry that is creating them and the consumer mind of modern people fueling this industry.

This is why I want to design not only a new type of vehicle, but a whole new model for the personal transportation. An object that evolves with you, something that you form an emotional connection with. Look at it as your home. You can’t buy home. You can buy a house and use it as a base to build upon. Model it and arrange it according to your taste and needs until gradually over time it becomes your home. I want to achieve this effect with a vehicle.

Mosquito Trap Product Range Helps Prevent Malaria, Dengue or Yellow Fever

Currently, half of the world’s population is permanently threatened by diseases that are transmitted by mosquitoes. Well known examples are malaria, dengue or yellow fever, which occur mainly in Asia, Africa, Central and South America, and their hinder economic and social development. While the diseases are not only the result of underdevelopment, they are also caused by it.

At the beginning, various laboratory tests with different prototypes were conducted to understand the influence of trap geometries and dimensions on the behavior of the mosquitoes. It proved to be difficult to reach the highest possible attractiveness for the insects while also complying with the user requirements. Ultimately, over 25 prototypes were tested to optimize both the efficacy of the trap in catching mosquitoes and the usability for the end user.

Three different trap variations were developed. All of them incorporate the core trapping technology but differ in their features and the targeted end user group. End user groups include:

  1. Researchers and professional mosquito control operators
  2. Private consumers searching for protection against mosquito borne diseases
  3. Commercial and private users who want to reduce the mosquito nuisance in gardens and other outdoor locations.

Limousine Yacht Tender Features Two Separately Actuated Roofs

The limousine tender by Denis Popov is an answer to the demand for multipurpose superyacht tenders that truly reflects the custom nature of the superyacht industry. Built for an 83.5m yacht, the 9.3m tender is meant to combine all the advantages of an open day boat and a luxurious limousine and to be stored on board of the mothership.

The design includes two separately actuated roofs that define the tender’s functionality and allow for an exceptionally low storage height. It only takes one push of a button to position the roofs into one of the three options. Firstly, raising the coachroof and the Bimini create a fully functional limousine with two separate decks. When the Bimini is raised above the aft deck using a smartly concealed pantograph mechanism, one gets a versatile tender with two open decks. And finally, in order to fit the tender into the yacht’s garage, both roofs need to be lowered down into the hull, bringing the total storage height to 1.55m.

Symbiosis Teaches Children About Civilization in Interactive and Fun Way

As part of Electrolux Design Lab Award, João Brito has designed Symbiosis, a unique system to solve the problem where children are too attached to video games. This virtual reality system teaches children about civilization in interactive and fun way, starting from a simple object, a tree. You can read Joao’s explanation about this system in his own words below.

Symbiosis is a Product Service System designed to address the problems of alienation and misinterpretation found in children, tied to the video games of everyday. The user is greeted with an air purifier and a package that contains a seed. Upon planting it, the 3D laser holographic projection system unveils the first glimpse of what’s to become a new playground, starting from the very beginning: a tree.

In this game-based and peer learning experience, the user is invited to start from a simple tree and evolve through historic ages into a futuristic civilization, while at the same time explore randomly generated environments and connect with others in games and small tasks. Some of the mechanics will feature various kinds of cities associated with seeds that will have the users trading them in order to obtain these cities, progress rewards and a very interesting twist: if the user doesn’t tend to his plant, the world degenerates until it disappears. We all need oxygen after all!
