BMW Gina Light Car Concept

Car manufacturers have always been interested to explore how the vehicles of the future would be like, but the key remains as to how prepared are we to face the challenge of presenting newer options. We know that BMW always introduces jaw-dropping car concept such as the last post in this blog BMW M1 Homage, but even in our wildest dream we don’t expect to see BMW latest car concept would be made of cloth. BMW Group Design has come up with GINA or Geometry and Functions in “N” Adaptations. BMW Gina Light car concept promotes innovative thinking and allows maximum freedom of creativity. Also BMW has explored the creative options that can be provided rather than probing how the future cars will look like. This car can change shape and surface at the flick of a switch, and the ‘GINA’ principles it espouses have been used to craft today’s BMW design language.

Yamaha Raijin “God of Thunder” Drums Designed by Motorcycle Designers

From motorcycle to music, this is what happens when motorcycle designers are tasked to design a musical instrument: Yamaha Raijin “God of Thunder” Drums. Yamaha Corporation and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has worked together for the “AH A MAY” project. They decided to switch 2 design divisions between them to design products without limiting their creativities and imaginations. We’ve featured Fujin Marimba before, this is the other cool musical instrument: Raijin Drums.

The designer has a vision to design drums that will allow a drummer go beyond existing method to express themselves. The result is globe like drums where performers can let their imaginations run wild on different kinds of drums that surround them. The center piece is the performer, Raijin would definitely create unique dynamic world of sound. Take a look at the first image, Yamaha should dress the guy in orange jumpsuit, with hair like that, he could be Naruto Uzumaki.

AH A MAY Project: Root Motorcycle by Kazuki Kashiwase

Do you want to know what happen when musical instrument designers design a motorcycle? Well, project AH A MAY (Yamaha spelled backwards) has interesting idea by exchanging Yamaha 2 design divisions and give them tasks outside their design fields without any constraints related to commercialization or production. The project goal is for designers to stimulate each other’s imaginations while creating products that embodied their shared image of Yamaha. The result is amazing, such as Yamaha Root Motorcycle.

This concept motorcycle takes the meters on the instrument panel off the rider’s view. The designer wants to make sure that this little change would enable rider to be a part of the passing scenery, enjoy their surroundings instead of focusing on the instrument panel of the motorbike. The form of Root has been designed to flow continuously from the seat to the fuel tank, inspired by a horse motif that aims to give a sense of harmony among people, nature, and the vehicle.

Plus Pendant Light by Andy Zhou

The Plus Pendant prototype is a fully functional ceiling mounted OLED luminaire designed to showcase the future capabilities of Organic LED such as its thin, surface based light and flexibility.

The OLED frame flexes up and down to change the characteristics of the light, ranging from an area light to a spot light. This is unseen mechanism is achieved by clever use of magnets and tensile wiring, driven by a motor and ball screw. A tablet app controls the luminaire via a Bluetooth connection.

Function
The OLED panels are mounted on a flexible frame which flexes up or down to change the conical characteristic of the incident light into either an area light, directional light, spotlight or anywhere in between. The thickness of the arms measure in at 5mm at the fattest section of the arm. This razor thin profile really accentuates the film-like qualities of OLED technology. The arms flex with the help of an internal motor, magnets and tensile cables to drive the annulus up the steel column. This gives the illusion of an invisible mechanism shifting the state of the Plus Pendant.

Control
The light can be controlled via a Bluetooth paired app on a smartphone or tablet device. The app has two modes: automatic and manual. In automatic mode, the Plus Pendant cycles through five programmed sequences. In manual mode, the user can specify their desired position and brightness.

Magic Tray by Ryan Jongwoo Choi

Ryan Jongwoo Choi just submitted Magic Tray to Tuvie. We don’t think we need long explanation, you would have guessed what this concept is all about. Carrying bowl of food and glasses of beverage will be easier with this tray concept, even when you are nervous or sloppy person.

“This product is a tray set applied with the principle of magnetism. I have checked the mistakes occurred in carrying foods of restaurant servers and attempted to think a way to complement the problems. When foods are carried, due to the law of gravity, the magnetic under the tray and the magnetic under the bowl are connected and magnetism arises. But, when the Magic Tray is put down, due to the spring inside the handle, a gap comes up upper side and bottom side, returns to the original state, so magnetism does not arise any more and the bowl can be detached easily.”

Angel Wings Is A Transformable Air-Filled Mattress Created For Post-Surgery Colon Cancer Patients

Each year, a million cases of cancer in the large intestine (or colon) occur all around the world. Quite a number of patients have surgery, but afterwards there is much physical and mental pain to be endured – by both patients and nurses. Colon cancer patients need to be nursed with a great deal of care and delicacy, and the most difficult care period is the week after the surgery. Angel Wings assists nurses during this difficult period. The designers of Angel Wings,Kim Do-Heon, Lee Byung-Joon, Park Ji-Eun, Roh Gina, spent a lot of time observing a patient who underwent surgery for colon cancer. They gained a deep understanding of the patient’s experience, analyzed the inconveniences felt, and considered what could be provided to make the patient more comfortable.

Angel Wings has been designed in a mattress format, which is easy to set up and clean. It contains a number of air pockets, and air is made to flow between these pockets in order to support different parts of the body or assist the patient with rolling onto their side. If all pockets contain the same amount of air, the mattress will be flat. The patient can control the air flow with a push-button unit. Massage holes in the air bags allow the patient’s back and shoulder to be massaged even while an air pocket supports the patient’s body. Since tubes can be run through the mattress to the patient’s waist, the patient can roll over without being troubled by them.

The designers hope that Angel Wings will be able to help relieve the pain of the many people who suffer from colon cancer.
