Designer Turns Plastic Trash into Beautiful, Functional Objects

Submitted by Carter Zufelt, this project is about creating beauty out of a unique recycling process. It started 2 years ago as his Senior Thesis in Industrial Design, Müll is a sustainable project with a goal to reduce plastic waste in our environment. Through a special process, the beauty of recycling is preserved and incorporated into functional objects; each piece will be 100-percent made in USA, no shortcuts.

Each year, it is estimated there are 1 trillion plastic bags consumed worldwide, unfortunately less than 5% of those bags are recycled. On top of that, a plastic bag can take up to 1,000 years to break down. Keeping this in mind and his concern for the environment, Carter decided to put his time and energy to create a special process that can help reduce plastic waste. After months of experimentation and fine-tuning, he finally was able to produce these amazing results. You can support his project through this page.
