Wacky Pack, just like its name suggests, it’s a wacky, interactive footwear. Do you know what it means to tie a shoe? Why do you it needs to be tied? Most shoe needs to be tied to enclose your foot, but there are several ways we can do that. This mundane action of tying a shoe can turn into something fun and entertaining, addictive perhaps. Inspired by the idea of interactive way to tie your shoe, this project wants to demonstrate that the closure shouldn’t dictate how a shoe performs.
It’s undeniable that Gen-Z and Millennials have become the core consumer of fashion and luxury products. However, they usually have low brand loyalty and contemporary view of value, they keep chasing new concepts that grab their attentions. These millennials have quick shift of attention, soon, they would want something more than just to use the product, they want to be a part of the product.
Wacky Pack Footwear Project explores new possibilities for footwear closure. Ye Shen, the designer, did some researches to explore different fastening methods and unorthodox construction to create unique yet diverse interactions between user and their shoe. This project wants to provide a new level of improvisation and customization for your day-to-day look. Wack Pack features three different shoe models: Bao Bao, O Snap, and Sticky fingers.
Bao Bao is a shoe born inside a shoe cover, you can wear it close or wear it open, even flip it. O Snap is a turn o-snap on shoe, you can snap pieces to each other, snap some or snap all, it’s up to you. Sticky Fingers, this model features zipped all the way around. You can choose zip or unzip the shoe according to your fashion style.
