Marc Newson has released his new collaboration with Louis Vuitton, The Cabinet of Curiosities. This new design delivers a perfect mix between Louis Vuitton’s iconic trunk in monogram canvas outside with Marc Newson’s sleek style inside.
The Cabinet of Curiosities is Marc’s interpretation of LV’s iconic trunk. We know that historically a traveling item has a specific purpose to contain clothes, shoes, or other belongings. Marc’s concept transforms this idea from traveling trunk to a cabinet that offers a blank space for storing or displaying whatever you like.
The traditional exterior of the trunk was predetermined, but Marc Newson was given complete freedom for the interior. So, here’s the first Vuitton trunk engineered to allow for 180-degree opening, and once opened, it reveals 19 leather cubes of three sizes. Each cube of The Cabinet of Curiosities is removable, user can rearrange these cubes with more than 1000 ways. The smallest cubes can be reversed, there’s a hinged door on one side, behind which objects can be concealed. Each trunk is handmade in Louis Vuitton’s workshop and features three color options: natural leather, yellow, and tricolor.
