Futuristic Project Ascensio Space Elevator Concept Takes You From Earth to The Stars

Project Ascensio just won Architecture and Innovation for Space Grand Prix Award. It’s a futuristic space elevator concept that might replace traditional rockets to take human from Earth (oceans) to the stars. Rockets are inefficient, extremely expensive, and hurt our environment, by replacing them with this space elevator, things might change. This project uses a cable-like structure that drops down to a space port on the surface, this innovative structure is connected to a ship that moves around the ocean to keep pace with the space port.

Jordan-William Hughes, an architect from Barrow, England won a €10,000 prize for this competition. It takes really huge amount of time and energy to do the research, Jordan wanted to make sure that really could explain how this space elevator would work. It might sound and look like something coming out of sci-fi movies, but Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky suggested the same idea in 1895 after visiting the Eiffel Tower.

Just imagine if we could operate this type of elevator to the space, then taking astronauts out into the solar system much easier and cheaper due to not having to use rockets.

Project Ascensio Space Elevator would be very expensive and very ambitious project, but Jordan believes that this project is actually possible to be created. Perhaps at some point, this space elevator will be built, it’s the only way space travel and exploration can become efficient. Currently Jordan is working as a concept artist at Foster + Partners architecture studio, he developed this concept in his spare time.
