BMW has envisioned the future of autonomous mobility through BMW i-Interaction EASE Concept Car. Released last year, this project just won iF Design Award 2021 in professional concept award category. It’s a future vehicle smart enough to think and act on their own, not just that, it is also smart enough to understand people. The BMW assistant is capable to recognize users and guide them through space using dynamic lighting, it welcomes you with comfortable seats that feature 3D-knit surfaces with embedded smart materials that give passengers the freedom to move and interact naturally. This car technology focuses on passenger freedom, it’s the holy grail of future mobility in BMW’s vision.

BMW i-Interaction EASE Concept Car is designed with advanced technology that empowers a sophisticated machine to think and act on its own to create interaction between an intelligent vehicle and human beings. This vehicle aims to create connection with you, it’s an ambitious project that sets a foundation for an autonomous vehicle to interact and communicate with its passengers in a genuinely intuitive way.
The combination of advanced technologies allows this autonomous vehicle to understand and respond to natural human behavior. Users don’t need to learn specific commands, this concept car is able to process the acoustic and visual information received from a variety of sensors and interprets it according to the driving situation, time, location, and vehicle signals. The force behind this unique experience is BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant, the sophisticated algorithm and innovative technology allow users to select the object they want to interact with simply by fixing their eyes, spoken word or gesture to start the interaction.
BMW i-Interaction EASE Concept Car offers three basic modes: Explore, Entertain, and Ease. So, depending on passenger’s needs, this car is capable to change its whole interior according to passenger’s choice of mode. Explore mode, this is where Panorama Head-up Display transforms the whole windshield into an augmented reality interface where passengers can interact with outside world in an intuitive way. Entertain mode, this is where the interior is sealed off from the outside world and all surfaces at the sides are darkened and entire windscreen turns into a screen-like display. Ease mode is where the vehicle turns to calm and relaxation zone, the seat moves into “zero-gravity” position, together with calming sounds, ambient lighting, and Panorama Head-up Display darkens, you can relax and enjoy the journey.
