Fashionable WIM Wearable Mobility Concept for Younger Consumers

Designed for WIRobotics, WIM is a concept mobility assist wearable device designed and developed for younger consumers with leg discomforts. This project is the result of cooperation with WIRobotics, a company founded by engineers from Samsung Electronics’s robotics team. Existing mobility assist products on the market are usually designed for elderly people, WIM targets younger consumers to help them experience comfortable mobility of walking or even running in their daily lives.

The design team decided to stay away from typical medical aesthetics, they wanted to create a design language that makes the product looking like a fashion accessory to attract younger consumers. WIM makes user feel natural in a daily setting.

WIM Wearable Mobility features ergonomic design that’s been developed by refining the joints, making it highly comfortable for any typical posture. Through close collaboration between the mechanical engineers and the design team, it is possible to make this product slim and compact without sacrificing its usability.

Designed by Soohun Jung, Rich Park, Byungwook Kang, and Jinwook Lee, WIM’s overall body is made of lightweight plastic in several color options. Other parts that are required to have high durability are made of aluminum, and other parts that come in contact with user’s body use soft fabrics and straps. To make sure simple and convenient use, WIM uses spring loaded lock release buttons and magnets which are automatically aligned the locks. The straps come with Velcro adjustments. WIM Wearable Mobility Concept also folds down for easy storage.
