BZI Chair won prize £1,000 in Furniture Design Competition held by Gordon Russell Design Museum. The competition was inspired by Gordon Russell’s design philosophy for innovative designs in a machine made chair. Considering lounge chair proportions, BZI design is suitable for manufacture in a variety of materials such as acrylic, wood, or carbon fiber, it can also be used for different settings. Featuring distinctive shape, it was inspired by the iconic Karl Blossfeldt’s black and white photographs of geometry in plants.
“The BZI chair is a stunning, structurally sophisticated design which clearly demonstrates precise knowledge of manufacturing and production techniques.” – Sean Feeney, a furniture maker and competition judge.
BZI Chair by Arash Shahbaz features a nice spacious tunnel at the bottom of the spline, thus allowing for potential dust to escape. That gorgeous spline design was inspired by geometry in plants, it creates a strong contour and provides structural strength.
