Well, Flip Chair was inspired by that sensation, it gives the feeling of lounging on a sprawling lawn, enjoying the plushness of the grass beneath you. Sitting on the chair, in your backyard you can imagine as if you’re basking in the warm sunlight while feeling that gentle caress of the breeze.

Thanks to Grasshopper programming, it is possible to create a gradual and dynamic transformation in chair’s design. This project incorporates “flip” element to compose the overall shape, thus, steam bending technique is applied to produce desired flipping contours. Of course, the use of specialized tools and jigs help ensure the precision in every line.

Flip Chair by Kuan-Cheng Chen embodies the graceful movement of grass in the wind, it features dynamic and organic form thanks to computer programs that help to simulate the fluidity and folds of the seat. The end product is then meticulously handcrafted to provide an authentic and immersive natural experience.
