Submitted by Vasilatos Ianis, [S]LOG (hard worker) is a six-wheeled electrical powered modular vehicle, it is specially design to meet a variety of logistic tasks for military purpose missions. The main goal and consideration was to design a vehicle with easy manufacturing and maintenance, fast and powerful, as compact as possible but also versatile with maximum load capacity.
The design of [S]LOG use the maximum dimensions allowed by the brief 141″/358cm x72″/182 cm x64″/ 162 cm with a ground clearance of 10″ /26 cm. The volume is split in three areas, cabin area and two parts of multipurpose areas for cargo people and other tasks. Each section of the volumes has a pair of wheel suspension and engines, working together to rich a reliable vehicle on a hard terrain and conditions for the tasks ahead. [S]LOG won the first place of Modular Logistics Vehicle (MLV) challenge on LaunchForth, a community forged from Local Motors.
The main structure frame of [S]LOG by Vasilatos Ianis is built from precision steel tubes for an easy manufacturing anywhere with minimum amount of equipment (basic tools), lightweight but very strong structure with a lot of handle bars welded on the structure. The cabin and the three engine houses can be made from welded metal sheets (or molded PVC) with internal steel tube system. The entire frame and cabin is treated with anti corrosive materials and painted in different variety of color depending on the purpose.
The cabin is open with no doors, has two seats one for driver and one for passenger with no gauges on dashboard, all electrical systems, on -off switch, battery voltage percentage and speed information can be obtained on wireless system from tablet or a smartphone (reducing the amount of failing parts, secure log in and use of the vehicle), also an steering wheel with fly by wire system and a single lever for turn signal and headlights, two rear-view mirrors. The seats, removable or foldable, are made from tubular steel with Cordura fabric for low weight and maintenance. Under the foldable seats are two boxes for tools and the emergency kit.
Wheels are airless design similar used on forklifts or golf carts, (already on the market) puncture resistance, good traction, no flats and longevity.
The [S]LOG’s powertrain is with electrical engines, one for each wheel, with independent suspension system on all 6 wheels, with a spring loaded pivot system between the sections.
The vehicle can accommodate 8 people on removable seats on the two cargo area, and in the cabin one driver and one passenger. Also the cargo area can be fitted for a multitude of tasks: open as a platform, closed container (one or two), or semi-opened area covered with Cordura fabric covers fitted on the structure with gust guard cords, power generators and many other cargo types.
The vehicle is fitted with two winch systems, one in front and one in the back, two gimbals cameras for the cargo area (cameras that can be accessed from tablet or any other smartphone) communication system with 3 antennas, projectors in front and back also spare tire fitted on the back frame door.
