Zero Eco Meal Tray Concept for Airline Raises Awareness About Sustainable Future of Flying

PriestmanGoode developed sustainable meal tray concept to help issue of waste in travel. Zero Economy Meal Tray is a concept study designed specially for airline, it aims to reduce amount of plastic waste usually created by meal service on passenger flights. The main theme of this project is “Get Onboard: Reduce, Reuse, Rethink”, the internal research project explored this plastic waste issue in travel, and they found out that air travel alone has resulted in 5.7 million tonnes of cabin waste each year.

Every element of Zero Meal Tray is composed of biodegradable, edible, and compostable materials. They are made from range of materials such as bamboo, algae, or coffee grounds. Zero project offers a possibility to encourage suppliers and airlines to rethink about meal service in more eco-friendly way.

PriestmanGoode wants to raise awareness through Zero Eco Lightweight Meal Tray Project about the amount of waste generated by onboard passenger flights. It encourages consumers to change their behavior. Even though it’s only a concept, it is hoped that it could raise awareness in travel industry to move toward sustainable future. Zero Tray is one of finalists in Crystal Cabin Award 2020.
