Weber Blazer Concept Grill – Compact Portable Adventure Grill with Minimalist Design

Great grilling is a form of art. Designed for the nomadic adventurer, the Weber Blazer Grill Concept Study is a modern interpretation of a compact portable camping grill, for the high-end barbecue enthusiast. The project takes advantage of materials from the motorsports industry to deliver a lightweight, durable, minimalist design for the experienced grill master who takes their grilling seriously.

Researching for this project also an excuse to enjoy the great outdoors, checking all newest gear from local camping gear shop. The design aesthetic and materials were inspired by gears of user’s lifestyle, especially the lightweight high strength materials used in the adventure motorsports category.

The project started as a design exercise to envision an upscale, modern, lightweight, durable camping grill concept for the adventure motorcyclist lifestyle. As part of their identity as an independent explorer, whatever tasks these self-reliant adventurers take on, they do so with the utmost craftsmanship and dedication to technique, grilling included. The brief also called for an aesthetic appeal to match a Weber grill’s functional honesty. When not in use it is a piece of sculpture embodying the user’s sense of strength, attention to details, and style.

Designed by Stephen Chu, an octagonal geometric theme was chosen as a form that conveys modern style while still being imbued with durability and toughness. The carbon composite cage stand was inspired by the exposed tubular frame chassis of user’s adventure motorcycle. For storage during travel the bottom cage stand flips over and is fittingly nested under the bottom shell of the charcoal dish bowl. In this position it also acts as protective frame around the main form.

As for the technique oriented grill master, dual top sliding vents are integrated into the top lid for maximum heat control of airflow over direct or indirect heat. The other details were designed with a similar approach. The grip handles, hexagonal grill pattern, and lightweight milled aluminum ashtray, all were designed with a sense of precision and geometry in mind.

To finish the design, the Weber logo and limited edition series number is laser engraved as a detail into the titanium lid prominently facing the user.
