Warm Wall, it’s a thesis project for Lauren E. Lee’s master in Industrial Design. it’s a unique heated wall for public toilets designed specifically to soothe women menstrual cramps. The wall is designed with curved protrusion area where women can lean their lower backs or abdomens to relieve the cramp through the pressure and heat. The heating system works just like that is used in underfloor heating system, all electrical heated wires are installed behind those tiles.
“Warm Wall provides women a warm place to lean, alleviate cramps, and commiserate with a friend, a stranger, or alone in the public restroom. It portrays menstruation as a shared and common experience.”
Lauren E. Lee explains that this project is aimed to discuss the taboo that has shaped women’s perception where menstruation cycle and its problems should be hidden from public realm. Most public spaces don’t really consider their design to meet these women’s recurring needs. By placing these walls in the ladies’ room, it will become the place of shared suffering, empathy, and the performance of femininity.
