TACTIL Cutlery Set has been designed to help visually impaired individuals which often have difficulty in distinguish cutlery by touching only the handle. Most restaurants use cutlery with plain handle design and they can only be distinguished by touching the head. This can be a problem when it comes to personal hygiene as well as public hygiene, especially during large-scale outbreaks of infectious diseases. This project adds tactile lines to the cutlery’s handle to provide intuitive feedback for easy identification through touch.
Ho Hyun Lim designed TACTIL concept to address this issue, it’s a set of cutlery with character lines on the handle, reflecting specific function of each cutlery and allowing intuitive identification just through touch. Since Braille varies by language, Hyun Lim decided to create a new visual language to identify each cutlery. Its simplicity and elegance, making sure usability for both visually impaired and good sighted people. Tactil Cutlery Set offers inclusivity, where everyone can enjoy their meal with confidence and dignity.
Spoon is symbolized by a gently raised curve inspired by the act of scooping. It provides a smooth, tactile cue.
Fork is designed with a set indented holes that represents its piercing action, therefore, it would be easily recognized by touch.
Knife comes with engraved sharp, linear pattern that symbolizes slicing, offering a distinct texture for identification.
