Elvin Chu, an industrial designer at Atlanta’s Georgia Tech University, has come up with innovative project: Shibusa. It’s an electric bike that features modular components. As population in the city continues to grow, transportation starts to become a big issue, even though city dwellers don’t usually need cars, they don’t really enjoy walking. This bike offers a hybrid solution to make the appeal of traditional bike intact while offering electric-assist for long commutes.
From initial concepts, Elvin Chu arrived to a smart solution that yielded a platform and systems design approach to offer flexibility to users. Shibusa is a special bike that carry the benefit of electric bike while maintaining a human-powered bike when necessary components are swapped out. Those components are upgradeable and interchangeable for different kind possibilities.
