The problem for wheelchair-bound users is when they have to climb the stair to reach to their destination, this can be frustrating. Scewo wheelchair has been designed with self-balancing technology allowing this wheelchair to rotate on spot or driving over curbs without getting stuck. Well, at this moment, it’s still a prototype but under active development, as you can see from the video, the prototype can already climb stairs. Equipped with big wheels, Scewo can go over obstacles without entanglement, thanks to its compact size, it fits most standard doors while can be easily maneuvered indoors.

Featuring rubber tracks, this wheelchair can move smoothly and gives safe ride on the stairs, the very wide base of those rigid tracks make it stable even on spiral stair cases. The user interface has been kept minimal to create user friendly operation without reducing any functionality. It also allows many adjustments in the seating position.
There are 5 modes for the operation:
- Driving mode – it allows for agile maneuvering and dynamic driving. User can use joystick or simply shift their body weight to control the chair.
- Stair mode – going up and down the stairs can be done safely, the transfers between the stair and back to the floor are automated.
- Safe mode – this is stationary mode, especially used to get on and off the Scewo chair.
- Elevated mode – the small wheels at the back can be lowered below main wheel to rise the seat up, in this way, the wheelchair user can have eye-to-eye communication or to reach higher lying objects.
- Track mode – in order to overcome slippery surfaces such as loose gravel or snow, the tracks can be lowered to the ground for increased traction.
