Reagiro Wheelchair Features Tiltable Backrest That Doubles as a Steering Wheel

Reagiro Wheelchair offers all-new user experience compared to manual wheelchairs. It’s a creatively designed wheelchair with fully mechanical, steering system that allows user to control the movement of the chair simply through upper body movement. Its tilt-able backrest is designed to connect to the front axle and turns leaning into curves and then into steering. By combining a user-centered and an experimental design approach, the wheelchair design offers values on different levels: tilting sideways for steering can be connected to fun, delight, and a sense of freedom.

Designed by Reto Togni, Reagiro Wheelchair allows its user to move one-handedly from one room to another. On the medical side, this wheelchair offers great potential through stimulating core muscles and relieving the hands. There are many wheelchair braking efforts to change or keep direction resulting in hands and shoulders stiffness. This new design is hoped to be able to change that.

The specially designed frame uses both digital and conventional manufacturing methods. The lugs that define the geometry are 3D-printed based on a parametric process, this ensures that each chair meets exact requirements for particular user.
