Designed as a marine rescue drone, PONTUS supports fast respond to various maritime accidents which might occur along beaches. PONTUS Underwater Drone is deployed to rescue individuals from the sea, it helps to safely transport them to shore. The name itself is inspired by Pontus, a primordial Greek Sea God, then the design is based on the shape of humpback whale, which is often considered as a guardian of the sea. This creature is gentle yet has strong protecting instincts, hence its nick name as the guardian of the sea. They often travel alone or in small groups, they usually engage in variety of protective activities such as raising their calves to the surface or rescuing seals from killer whales.
PONTUS Drone has been designed to help lifeguards rescue drowning victim. As numbers of visitors to the beach increases every year, casualties are also increasing, yet there are limits when having to rescue drowning victim with human power alone. Tae Hyun Kwon wanted to support lifeguards by creating beach guardians like humpback whales, protecting life on behalf of people. PONTUS is capable to take rescuer to search victim in deeper water, motors on both wings and tail help to approach the victim really fast and raise them safely to the surface together with the lifeguard.
