ÖselBirch has launched a limited-edition fermented birch water line in a reusable bottle. This limited-edition product has been designed to raise awareness for loss of forest biodiversity. In collaboration with Andre Fangueiro, a designer, ÖselBirch worked on a new design inspired by the Ösel forests as you can see the design represents the balance of nature in a contemporary look and feel. The long shape of the bottle together with a birch bark cap are meant to represent a birch tree, bringing nature into consumers through touch and feel. The goal of this design is to bring into discussion about our origins and biodiversity in our everyday live.
Keeping sustainability in mind, Andre Fangueiro and ÖselBirch want to make sure that the life span of this product goes beyond consumption where the packaging can be reused as a decoration element. Available only Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, ÖselBirch Birch Water actually supports the life of forest. By collecting birch water, we can add another 30 years of life for the forest and its eco-system, helping forest biodiversity to flourish for many more years.
The birch water is purchased from organic birch forest owners to make sure that they can keep their forest healthy and thriving. Birch water is a natural product of the forest that can be collected once a year. Furthermore, by harvesting this natural product, the forest owner can avoid selling woodland for timber while at the same time, these birch trees can remineralize soils, preparing a good foundation for other species to grow.
