There more than 15 million people have to live with ostomy bags, this is usually due to conditions such as colon cancer or inflammatory bowel disease. Unfortunately, many of them have to experience a leak from that bag at least once. Odapt is a 3D-printed concept silicone wafer specifically designed to avoid possible leaks. Having to carry ostomy bag is already impacting user’s quality of life not to mention their social interactions or professional environments. When leak happens due to mistadjustment, it can be scary and embarrassing.
The wafer of Odapt has been carefully designed to make sure it adapts to user’s anatomy and to any pouch in the market. Thus, eliminating leaks problem while improving ostomates’ quality of life.
Odapt Silicone Wafer is designed by Jessica Nissen, Ivana Llobet, and Patricia López. It is the first 3D printed silicone wafer that adapts to different shape of stoma and to any pouch existing on the market. Aside from eliminating leaks, it also reduces the problem of skin irritation. The stoma of the user can be scanned by professional scanner and then Odapt is adapted with Rhino/Meshmixer to fit that stoma and pouch used by the user.
People need to change their wafers every two to three days, some also do it on daily basis. This activity can create huge quantity of medical, non-recyclable waste. Odapt Project aims to eliminate this issue by introducing re-usable wafer that lasts for years. User can easily clean it with soap and water.
