To us, washing the dishes might just another house-hold chore, but to people with one-hand, washing the dishes can be a daunting task. People born with one arm, amputees, patients who are suffering from stroke or temporary injuries, doing this simple task can be very challenging due to the limitation of one functioning hand.
MORAY is a concept kitchen sink especially designed to provide leverage to one-handed users when washing dishes and various types of kitchenware. This project started by identifying obstacles in the kitchen environment for one handed people, if a person can only utilize one of their arms, they won’t be able to do food prep for a meal or even wash dishes efficiently.
MORAY kitchen sink incorporates basic element of a standard kitchen sink with a new, fresh forms that would benefit users who can only utilize one arm. Inspired by beautiful landscapes from terrace farming around the world, Natalia Baltazar has implemented similar landscapes into this basin design. The unique form of the landscapes makes it possible to hold various type of kitchenware while letting water run off easily towards the drain. The edges that outline the basin layer can be utilized as a point of leverage for users, through different curved edges and angled surfaces, it is possible to accommodate various shapes of dishes.
