Modern Korean Floor Desk with an Open Shelf and Spacious Legs Room

As part of “Making Modern and Contemporary Korean Style Project”, Kyungah Sohn has come up with Modern Korean Floor Desk. Due to historical reasons, there are many Korean furniture have been stalled at the pre-modern stage. Even though there are many South Korean industrial designers who have made serious attempts in modernizing these furniture pieces, but these designs are going nowhere without public approval and popularity. One thing that Kyungah noticed was that most of those designs were trying to look like Korean, and it turned out to be unnatural and boring.

Back in the old days, a desk served as a furniture for reading/writing and at the same time, it provides a space for the person of the room to maintain its superior status. In modern era, a desk has become a platform to read/write and as the room got more spacious than before, people want a larger-sized desk where they can sit comfortable with their legs under the desk. Floor Desk by Kyungah Sohn provides user with spacious desk with open shelf just right under the top plate to the side, it offers a nice space to keep your laptop, books, or drinks. This floor desk would have both a nice legroom and storage space underneath in an asymmetrical form. In order to achieve a visual balance, Kyungah uses varying thickness for the aprons.
