Located in the middle of Karangahake forests, Karangahake Farm House demonstrates the essence of simple life. Surrounded by the beauty of Karangahake forests and Kaimai Ranges, this house reminds you to the importance of our environment and quiet family moments. Modern yet humble architecture that holds its own on the hilltop, it can be accessed through the last bridge towards Waihi from Paeroa. It’s a modern and simple house that brings back the meaning of shelter, gathering, and freedom.
The interior of Karangahake House by Make Architects features warm cross-laminated-timber floors, it is fully lined with ply walls and ceiling. This chosen design creates cozy, enclosed space that reminds you of a classic tramping hut. The goal of this project was to create intimate and easy family home with mezzanine loft space for impromptu friends and family.
It has an “outdoor” room that provides a protected space connecting Eastern and Western environments. The soft filtered light above along with a large barn slider closes you off to a sense of peaceful solitude towards the forest below.
To avoid wasteful and arduous construction process, Karangahake House comes with cost-saving and efficient prefabricated floors, walls, and roofs. Together, all these structures can be assembled on-site within just four days. The sustainability can be achieved further through selected materials and finishes, ventilation systems, and weathertight linings. This house project helps increase awareness toward an architecture that leaves the surrounding landscape untouched.
