The association between social isolation and gait disorders are getting stronger as people getting older. In some countries, up to 1 in 3 older people are lonely. The level of isolation increases as their independence decreases, it can be said that social isolation is contributed by declining in physical ability.

Journey Walker Senior Personal Mobility aims to redesign traditional motorized carts. The traditional version is lack of movement while at the same time causing insufficient exercise, not to mention the cost issue. The traditional walkers might help elderly people to exercise yet it limits their posture. Journey Walker aims to design a new form of walking assistant that would effectively help senior people.

This mobility helps elderly to find directions easily with just simple movement. By studying existing products for elderly people, this concept mobility promises innovative technology to help user maintain their health. Journey Walker will expand the radius of senior activity through autonomous driving.

The armrest is height/length adjustable, it will fit into user’s body proportions in a variety of positions. The built-in speaker provides voice feedback. When user enters driving mode, the seat rises and armrest position adjusts for the mode. User can use a joystick controller to drive Journey Walker, there are control buttons on top of the handle, user can easily maneuver this vehicle without changing their posture. The hidden footrests retract to stay out of the way when walking or extend to support user’s feet when driving.
