Verdant is a thesis project by Kyungtaek Lim that provides future vision of smart agriculture in urban settings. It’s a new form of urban farming that eliminates long distribution channels between producers to consumers, making them more efficient and reduce fuel consumption over the long haul. Under climate change, we have to deal with increased crop losses due to flooding or heavy precipitation events. Keeping this in mind, Lim wants to present a new type of farming that is combined with mobility, the result is Verdant, Urban Micro Farm system with autonomous mobility system. From production to sales, everything can be done to create a new food chain system with one autonomous farming vehicle system.
Verdant Urban Micro Farming provides the city with its own food chain. If you think about it, there’s a long way for a plate of salad can come up to our table, the cultivation process and distribution of crops take long food miles and cause serious carbon emissions.
Verdant Farming Concept by Kyungtaek Lim provides modular city farming where people can easily get their modular farming system from the center station and grow their own food. They can easily share recipes based on smart farm data. Everything is well planned and effectively produced, then distributed to consumers. It’s a smart farm system where everything is integrated from production to sales. Each farm module is detachable from the center station, it operates just like an autonomous vehicle that travels between narrow buildings to get to the customer.
