Futuristic STRIA Shared E-Mobility Platform for Hong Kong in 2040

Designed for Hong Kong in 2040, Stria is a concept shared e-mobility platform. The unique design addresses the rise of ageing population with ongoing public health crisis and congestion. STRIA project provides user with inclusive e-mobility device (EMD) that can be transformed to meet user’s needs. It’s personal yet flexible, it can provide solution to shared mobility network to adapt to future urban traveling.

In the future, Hong Kong would focus on the development of public spaces and regional businesses, therefore, short-distance travel needs will dramatically increase. Unfortunately, micro-mobility hasn’t really developed as a mode of transit in Hong Kong due to poor infrastructure, not to mention Hong Kong is a small and dense-populated city. The city needs better transportation networks with inclusive shared mobility platform.

Cathy Wong, a Hongkongers and an industrial designers, believes that STRIA can offer a new electric mobility that provides inclusive, hygienic, and seamless transportation solution with flexible parking system. STRIA has four modes for different mobility level: Sport, Commute, Support, and Companion. Each mode has its own function and capability, Sport mode allows you to ride STRIA as a skateboard, Commute mode allows you to ride STRIA just like a kick-scooter, Support mode is similar to Commute, except that you can use the foldable seat for long ride, and Companion mode is used when you need to fold STRIA to carry on public transport.

As an electric mobility device (EMD), STRIA features double brushless motor where the main motor wheel will be electrified and turned on when riding. The second motor can be activated manually when you think it’s needed. The ball join will be unlocked when micro actuator retracts in Sport mode, this mechanism also works in other modes. Designed with goose-neck structure, STRIA allows rider to tilt the handle to trigger “forward” and “backward” movement.

In the future, Hong Kong can re-design personal mobility lane to support dynamic wireless charging for STRIA. The lane can be designed to fit STRIA Station in every block. This system would facilitate traffic flow on the lane, and once STRIA is no longer used, it can be returned into its parking area.
