Scorpion Multipurpose Pickup Truck fuses contemporary pickup truck design with SUV convenience. Existing pickup trucks can be said as multipurpose vehicles which adapt to user’s needs. It’s perfect for both work or leisure activities, however, due to similar design, it is lack of innovation. It’s difficult to recognize specific characteristics with each brand. This project aims to blend its multipurpose feature with SUV form, but still with the same cargo bed. Inspired by the shape of Scorpion and through formative analysis sketch, it is possible to create a more creative pickup truck frame. Derived unique characteristics of a mountain motorcycle helmet for the front, various features are combined to create optimal power to weight ratio.
The design of Scorpion Multipurpose Pickup Truck allows user to experience various performances which are optimized for off-road ride. It removes many issues with a wide field of view and promises user-friendly operation for the driver. As the truck moves, there’s high probability that the load shifted and damaged due to shaking. This concept applies the idea of expansion to the trunk part, that square frame of existing trunk is eliminated.
The vertical rear lamp looks really intense, it is based on Scorpion’s tail followed by a unique rear frame where the trunk cover is spread from both sides to the center part. This special feature emphasizes a sleek and sporty look, it also makes the truck more convenient for users to load their cargo. The rail and the cover are connected, it means that when you load your items, that cover and rail move accordingly to the size of your cargo, hold them tightly and safely.
Designed by Chang Hyun Lee, Scorpion Pickup Truck features unique structure that narrows from top to bottom, it comes with a quadra lamp structure around its shape to provide direct driving experience for user onboard. Those digital side mirrors serve as radar sensors and cameras as well, they will help driver to identify obstacles during off-road or urban driving, moreover, the smart on-board system would also guide driver to safer routes. As an electric pickup truck, it has a portable battery pack which can serve as a power source in case of emergency.
