In relentless attempt to make people’s lives better, Ford has developed “Feel The View” smart car window that helps blind passengers to “Feel” the passing landscape. It’s still at prototype stage but it looks promising, “Feel The View” device uses high contrast photos to reproduce scenery via LED lights. It’s easy for us with good sight to enjoy the view, especially those rolling hills to mountain ranges, but for the blind, this is the part of amazing experience that they miss.
This smart car window device wants to change this by allowing the blind or partially-sighted people to visualize passing scenery through touch.
“Feel The View” takes photos of the outside views and turns them into high-contrast monochrome images. These are then reproduced on the glass using special LEDs. There are a range of 255 intensities, by touching the image, different shades of grey vibrate, it is hoped that blind passengers can touch the scene and create those beautiful landscapes in their mind. Aside from the window displays, the car would also feature a voice assistant that uses AI technology to describe the scenery outside the window.
