EMPWR Coat : Water-Resistant Jacket and Sleeping Bag in One

EMPWR coat is a water-resistant jacket and sleeping bag in one, designed specially for homeless people. This project was started by Veronika Scott when challenged to create a product to fill a need in her community during her class at The College for Creative Studies in Detroit. The issue of homeless got her attention so she started a nonprofit organization to help elevating families from the generational cycle of homelessness. This organization not only produces coats, it also trains and hire single parents from local shelters so that they can earn stable income to regain their independence.

EMPWR coat is made of durable, water-resistant Cordura fabric from Carhartt, upcycled automotive insulation from General Motors. Other materials needed are provided by generous donors. This coat can keep its user warm and can be transformed into a sleeping bag at night, even when not in use, it can be folded into an over-the-shoulder bag.
