Electronic Play Mat is a concept device to provide new kind of treatment for children with autism, especially for children at the age of 2 to 4. This play mat features well-designed games where children and parents can play together, creating deeper bond and help their kids to recover better.

There’s still no cure for autism, but early recognition, as well as behavioral, educational and family therapies can reduce symptoms and support development and learning. There are many special treatments that are not affordable for most families, also, most parents which are not involved in the treatment usually don’t get respond from their kids. Inspired by this issue, an Electronic Play Mat has been designed specially to encourage family playtime between parents and children at home as precaution against autism or an additional device to other treatments.

Designed by Jin Yi Jing, Electronic Play Mat concept consists of many hexagonal units where each unit is an interactive electronic mat. There’s a set of LED light bulbs under that anti-static nylon surface, these bulbs can be used to play games. When someone steps on the mat, it creates clear and melodious sound, attracting children to come around. When children see those animation effects on the mat, they’ll want to explore more.

Parents and children can assemble and disassemble the mat easily, there are magnets at every side of a hexagon, a family can build different configurations for different game levels. To avoid being too obvious, these mats are designed to look like normal mats that we usually spread on the house floor. It helps children to gradually improve their sense of space and balance while following stepping on lights of the mat. It helps increase family bonding as well.
