Inspired by many accidents in real life, conveX has been designed as a street facility sign for unsignalized intersections. In big cities, yes, we can see there are already many reflecting mirrors located at the corner of unsignalized intersections to make sure the safety of road users. Unfortunately, many of those reflecting mirrors are installed poorly and unsightly, causing accidents especially to pedestrians, usually in dense areas or shared-use lanes. This concept project aims to redesign this facility sign that makes it safer for both pedestrians and other vehicles.
conveX concept consists of more than ten thousand reflection units, its unique geometrical structure is able to reflect headlight from approaching car to other users to create an alert in advance. The main objective of convex is to avoid accidents, it is able to spread car or motorcycle headlight into a directional icon, thus provides clearly and instantly alert pedestrians to pay more attention to their surroundings as they walk across an intersection.
Designed by Cheng-An Juan Lu and Tzu Ying Yu, conveX features dimension of 1360.4x1405mm, it is installed on the road surface with 11 M10 screws. Due to the thinness and streamlined shape, convex won’t become another obstacle on the road. However, the designers also explain that it is possible to resize this sign to adapt to wider or narrower intersections. Hopefully, conveX facility sign will be able to improve safety on the road.
