Founded by Paulo Camasmie, a Brazilian Mechanical Engineer, Catrike is an Orlando, Florida, based manufacturer of recumbent trikes. They recently launched a new line of electric assist models – including a folding model, the eCAT Trail. The eCAT Trail features a well-padded seat mounted to a fully adjustable, foldable frame. The Catrike proprietary hand rests offer adjustable support for long rides while the integrated computer mount and stock rear view mirror ensure riders have all the information to be safe and efficient while riding.
At the heart of the eCAT line is the latest in electric-assist systems from industry leaders Bosch. The result is a stable three-wheel machine with the perfect combination of maximum efficiency, comfort and riding enjoyment. The efficient and versatile Active Line Plus electric-assist drive mated to a 1 x 11 drivetrain (11 – 42 cassette / 44 tooth chainring) provides dynamic performance – guaranteeing an authentic riding sensation with minimal pedaling resistance. This system provides active and sporty acceleration even at low cadences, it offers powerful assistance as soon as you steps on the pedals. The system’s multi-sensor technology and fast information processing ensure optimum interaction between rider and machine.
The Bosch Active Line Plus electric-assist system features four levels of power assistance: Eco – 40%, Tour – 100%, Sport – 180% and Turbo – 270%. Each level also features a maximum drive torque to ensure smooth, gentle acceleration. The Bosch Active Line Plus delivers assistance up to 20 mph and a cadence of 105.
When not on the road, the eCAT Trail from Catrike folds into a compact 43″ x 32.5″ x 22″ and has roller wheels for easy transport. The eCAT Trail retails for $5,550.
