Designed for the year 2040, this four-seater vehicle is focused on sustainable and luxury, it is fully electric with generous amount of interior space within its four-meter-long footprint. Just like its name suggests, the design team considered circularity from the outset during the design process. This vehicle is packed with innovative ideas that combine sustainability with inspirational aesthetic, a design approach that can be called as “circular design”.
Do more with less, this has been an integral part of BMW i philosophy. Through this project, BMW demonstrates rigorously applied reduction in component parts, materials, and surface finishes, reducing exterior paintwork and the use of leather and chrome. By utilizing bio-based raw materials, it helps minimize environmental impact and contributes to a smaller carbon footprint. Even the smart control panels are reduced in complexity and hardware variants.
BMW i Vision Circular is designed a sustainable car with a long lifespan without sacrificing rich and enjoyable riding experience. All system is upgradeable, the digital display surfaces of both exterior and interior allow user to constantly bring something new to this vehicle. The detachable connections make it really simple for user to replace individual materials or component parts where they can always restyle the vehicle to meet their taste and style.
From the very first start, BMW i Vision Circular focuses on using recycled materials, which they are also intended to be reused again at the end of product life cycle. Therefore having a small number of mono-material groups with connections that can be undone easily is crucial for good recycling. Keeping this in mind, BMW i Vision Circular doesn’t use bonded connections or composite materials, instead, it uses intelligent types of connection such as press studs, cords, or quick-release fastener.
Through the principles of “RE:THINK” and “RE:USE”, number of parts can be reduced to the max. as you can see instead of having a chrome surround with bars, the kidney grille has been newly interpreted as a digital surface. The kidney surfaces extend across the entire width of the front end, merging headlights and grill into “double icon” that has become a clear BMW identifier.
The interior is designed to create a luxurious ambience. Thanks to carefully chosen materials and responsible approach to the environment and resources, BMW i Vision Circular demonstrates what’s possible in the future, sustainable luxurious vehicle with intriguing aesthetics.
