Amity Relational Fridge Robot, this project brings back the idea of food sharing especially for seniors. Sharing food isn’t just about sharing calories, it’s also about connecting and socializing. We can pass around cakes after moving to a new neighborhood or make a delicious side dish to share with friends, it’s all about making a connection with other people.

As elderly people become less mobile, most often than not, they struggle to connect with other people due to physical limitations. This issue makes them more isolated from society. Well, food is more than just a material exchange, sharing food is a way to give and receive warmth.

Designed by Junho Han, Amity Relational Fridge Robot Concept aims to support elderly people to connect with others by sharing food. It’s a robot that delivers human-cooked meals on behalf of its owner, helping them connect with each other and maintain social connections. For elderly people with limited mobility, Amity gives them an opportunity to share again, helping all generations to nurture warm relationships. It’s a mobile fridge concept where people can safely deliver and receive food, the robot keeps food safe from spoiling on-the-go, moreover, it has the ability to send short voice messages.

This concept robot is more than just food exchange/delivery, it also creates special connection as well. The artificial intelligence technology makes Amity can recognize people, adjusting its height to meet its receiver limitations when sharing/receiving the meal. Some elderly might not be able to get up or lift heavy objects, therefore, this fridge opens in two directions for easy access. The lidar sensors will level the food so it won’t spill on the way to the person, there’s also an emergency stop button on the back.
