Windtulip : Wind Powered Street Light That Looks Like A Tulip Flower

Today, we mostly use nuclear and fossil fuel sources to fill the energy needs. Day after day, it is becoming more serious problem we have to face along with poisonous wastes, deadly accidents and concerns about exhaust of natural resources. Future comes with both sustainability and environmental concerns. This is because there is a rising tendency to green power sources like solar and wind power plants. However, these environmentally friendly power plants also require power transmission lines to transmit the harnessed energy from plant to our homes. For this reason, products with cables will begin to give their places to self-feeding products which produce their own energy and not depend on power sockets.

So, as a street lamp, “Windtulip” is that kind of product. It has a vertical-axis wind turbine that looks like a tulip flower, now you can see where the designer got the name for this project. The energy produced by these turbines is generated and transmitted to transformer and finally battery. Battery stores the energy, therefore, LED lighting enable to work even in windless weather. There is also a day-night sensor that generates the time of light emitting.

Windtulip harnesses the power of the wind to be later used to generate electricity to power the light at night. It is a truly green product. It produces the energy it needs in a sustainable way, emits efficient lighting without any dependency on other power sources.

When we think about a street lamp as a part of streets or gardens, aesthetic view is also important feature. All parts are aesthetically combined for simplicity and unity. LED lights are installed on the body and covered by semi-transparent plastic. The steel tubular body of Windtulip that has been coated with zinc alloy that also carries the light weight aluminum blades like a pedicel that carries blossoms.
