Tokujin Yoshioka designed TOKYO 2020 Olympic Torch with wishes for peace and healing of hearts in disaster-hit area. This beautiful torch features cherry blossom emblems, which was inspired by drawing from children in recovering area of Fukushima. The drawing of those cherry blossoms was all vibrant, it symbolizes the spirit of people trying to get back up and restart from disaster. This hope and spirit are incorporated into the Olympic Torch design.

Tokujin Yoshioka explains that his design is not merely the form of TOKYO 2020 Olympic Torch, it’s the form of flame itself. There will be five flames surrounded by petals that become one Olympic flame, it symbolizes all people’s hope to live in this world with peace. In 2020, this Olympic flame will traverse throughout Japan just like the beautiful cherry blossoms blooming, it’ll light our way to hope.
