Usual mobile phones contain a small dot on the 5 key that allows the user to press the other keys even without looking on the keypad. Thus, even blind people can write text messages with conventional mobile phones. But what will they do when it comes to reading a text message? The Universal Phone concept is specially designed for blind people, but sighted people can also use it even efficiently. The keypad contains thousands of micro pins that are lowered and raised according to different modes. Moreover, these pins transforms in a Braille platform to facilitate blind people with reading and writing text messages.

D:Scribe is a digital fountain pen designed by Reuben Png, a student of New South Wales University, that will allow you to send email messages and SMS from paper. All you have to do is write down the message by using the keyboard or keypad, whatever you name it, and circle the name of the person to send it in a more personalized way of communicating. You can access the previously written messages through a computer since the pen records everything you write. To express your thoughts freely, this device allows messaging through sketches which can convey your message beyond your words.

SmartBook the new mobility computing device designed by Roland Cernat is definitely a multi tasking instrument to the core. At the first look it looks like any laptop but on closer look one can see that it surely can be used more than just a laptop. On the back of the screen is the digital writing pad on which one can just scribble with the digital pen which is kept under the keyboard. The good thing about this device is that it can be customized or adapted as per individual and their abilities, a multi-functional computing device.

The challenge of the design brief was to create a design solution that enabled greater and easier levels of user interaction. The easy to understand keypad combined with the hand-writing recognition technology provides great information ergonomics for the user. Another of the video phone key selling points is its dual mode functionality. The phones keypad can be locked into place to provide a sturdy stand/rest to allow users to sit back enjoy the video calling experience.
