The U3-X is an experimental personal mobility device concept by Honda, that can provide free movement to the rider in all directions, backward, forward, side-to-side and transversely by implementing Honda’s balance control technology and latest omni-directional driving wheel system. The users will be able to adjust speed, moving directions and stop anyhow they want by leaning their upper body. The one-wheel-drive compact mobility device allows the rider to seat at just around the same eye level as he or she is standing on the gourd and let them easily land on the ground from the footrest. The compactable bicycle concept was driven from the need of boosting urban space efficiency when it is not in use or being transported. The wheel is made of six modules, each with double pivot in their joints, allowing the wheel to be folded and become smaller. The spokes of the wheel are contained in the internal structure when you fold the bicycle and the spokes rotate to the system’s center where they attach with the center wheel. This bicycle is designed in a double triangle structure made of expandable modules with foldable ability. To keep the structure in position, the system has utilized a special X shaped component that aligns the modules to the exact position.

The concept utilizes an electric TAXI vehicle and supported infrastructure with recharging booths placed at vital points around the city. The design of the vehicle is mainly focused on safety of the driver and passengers, reliability, ease of use, iconic design and minimal environmental footprint. The highlighted features of the vehicle are GPS and mapping system for passengers and driver, Smart card system, passenger info and entertainment hub, hydrogen fuel cell, solar panel system including recharging hubs and battery generators.
