Dragonfly, A Metabolic Farm for New York City in The Future

Dragonfly vertical farm is a concept urban farm specially designed for the Roosevelt Island of New York City which will reduce the problems associated with food shortage, mileage and connection between the producers and consumers. Because of the densely packed city civilization, this farm has been designed vertically, spanning 132 floors and 28 different agricultural fields for accommodating dragonflies aiming to produce fruit, grains, vegetables, meat and dairy. This Dragonfly wing shaped superstructure features wind and solar power producing capability and includes housing, offices, research labs and communal areas separated from farms, orchards and production rooms. Throughout the glass and steel set of wings, animal and plant farming is arranged as well as soil nutrient levels are maintained properly.

Energy Efficient Oriens Glider Won The Lucky Strike Designer Competition

Roland Cernat’s Oriens Glider is one stunning energy efficient glider while also being environment friendly. The design won the Lucky Strike Designer Competition for being innovative in re-envisioning the life-cycle of the airplane. The glider is constructed entirely out of recyclable materials. The design is sleek as it is translucent shell finished with glossy organic contours and runs on clean energy. The wings are made of photovoltaic cells which provide an emission free flight, it has an electric motor comprising of a propeller that retracts when it is gliding for better efficiency. Seems after energy efficient transportation we can just glide away to future.

Flow – Wind Solar Energy System

Wang Yigang has designed flow, a wind solar energy system. This solar and wind energy collection system uses arciform photovoltaic cells to enable a better collection of sun light. At the same time, the shell, which is composed of six photovoltaic cells, can be used as wind concentrator. The wind forms a whirlpool within. This acceleration of wind speed increases the performance of the rotor. Through movable joints, the angles of the photovoltaic cells can be adjusted so that different orientations can be made for the maximisation of sun exposure, and to vary the amount of wind entering the system. The wind energy system uses a Darrieus-type vertical axis wind turbine. It can operate normally even when the wind is not very strong. In addition, FLOW?s small size makes this system suitable for family use.
