A’Design Award and Competition, one of prestigious design awards, has released the results of the 2015-2016 design competition. Last year, there were 836 winners, but this year, the number has jumped to 1276 winners from 88 countries in 93 different design disciplines. Each entry has been carefully evaluated by an international influential jury panel that consists of design professionals, established scholars, prominent press members, and experienced entrepreneurs who have devoted great attention to details when voting each entry.

Inspired by the shape of human body when riding a bike, 3bee is a bicycle frame that can be adjusted to meet rider’s need. It is a 3D printable sports equipment that aims to make the bike fully customizable. It comes with an integrated seat, this frame is fully adjustable from the beginning of the production, the use of 3D printing technique allows you to personalize the bike with different kind of parts.

SteppGo – Human Powered Personal Transportation to Move Around the City

The conceptual design of SteppGo was developed within the scope of the topic Human Powered Mobility in Hybrid City Cairo. In a major capital city like Cairo, where cars dominate the streets, hours are wasted commuting on a daily basis. Due to the underdeveloped infrastructure, bicycle culture is barely present. This leads to time-consuming traffic jams and shortcomings in respect to exercise, leisure time and outdoor activities. SteppGo offers a human powered alternative for people, especially sports enthusiasts, to move around the city more actively by merging exercise and mobility.

SteppGo combines a tricycle with a stepper, offering stability on three wheels as streets are commonly quite uneven. To effectively power SteppGo, it is based on a treadle mechanism to ease the forward motion of the standing tricycle. It is equipped with a height-adjustable steer handle tube to suit the user, as well as front and rear lights to ensure safety and night vision.

Designed by Paul Elio, this car aims to be a solution for today’s generation of drivers where gas prices are constantly spiking. Elio saw the soaring costs of vehicles that we drive, including fuel prices that spike to record highs almost every year while Americans are struggling with an economy that takes too much. Keeping this in mind, Paul decided that the world need radical designed vehicle that is affordable, fun to drive, and super economical.

Elio motor offers you personal transportation alternative, a compact and practical car to drive you around the city. Manufactured in USA, Elio can reach 84 MPG (highway) or 49 MPG in the city. Safety is also the main priority when designing this vehicle, Elio meets highest safety standards for a car, it comes with 3 airbags, a reinforced roll-cage frame, Anti-Lock braking system, and 50-percent larger crush zones compared to similar vehicles.

Qloud Qubed (Q) demonstrates the vision of Qoros that wants to create multi-dimensional personal management assistant in physical world. It reflects anything that this brand stands for: elegance, simplicity, and dynamism. Qloud Qubed or Q represents trust since the depth and value of human relationships are connected to the level of trust between individuals, this concept works similar. The dynamic relationship between user and Q mimics how human relationships develop over time, Q reduces the possibility of an accident by monitoring driver’s performance at all times silently, it can sense if driver’s being irresponsible such as drunk, it’ll automatically switch to auto driving mode, taking over the wheel and safely drive the passenger to the destination.

Tokyo Smart Wheel : Smart Guiding System for Tourists

Tokyo Smart Wheel offers smart guiding for tourists that are not familiar with the city of Tokyo. It can be pretty challenging for them to navigate the city, especially those with lack of language skills needed to communicate easily. Even some streets don’t have name and the lack of Wi-Fi access makes it even more difficult to explore this awesome city. Considering these issues, especially when Tokyo will host various Olympic events in 2020, these industrial designers have come up with a design proposal for the solution.

Tokyo Smart Wheel is your personal guide to the city of Tokyo. It’s an electric, self-stabilizing unicycle which can be found in different locations near venues, parked in one large station. Once you tap your ticket to the main station, the wheels are unlocked, it is also accompanied with a smart bracelet that can be used to activate the wheel when worn.

Hyper-Speed Vertical Train Hub is a futuristic proposal for our future advanced public transportation network. One of great challenges we’re going to face in the future is space, this concept train goal is to resolve this issues sometime around 2075. It offers deliverable and sustainable solution for next generation transportation by building the station vertically instead of taking so much space on ground.

In the future, we believe our world’s population will dramatically increase, resulting in higher demand for goods, food, fuel, natural resources, and land. Most future’s population will settle towards live in mega cities that leads to competition and pressure for adjacent suburban land. We will have to explore more efficient and innovative forms of public transport to accommodate those needs.

Toyota FV2 Futuristic Vehicle Doesn’t Use Steering Wheel, Shift Your Body to Steer!

Toyota has released several concept vehicles during 43rd Tokyo Motor Show, one of them is Toyota FV2 futuristic vehicle, the show will run from Nov 20 to Dec 1. P.F.U.V : Futuristic Personal Folding Urban Vehicle Concept for The Year of 2040

Designed for the year 2040 this vehicle solves a mayor problem for every city in the future, space. Only 30% longer than a standard bicycle, P.F.U.V (Personal Folding Urban Vehicle) has the ability of folding itself when not in use for reducing space to a minimum. When folded, this vehicle can be stacked in front of one another for parking.

Most people use a big car for transporting only themselves from point A to B, and cars spend most of the day parked, wasting a lot of space. Utilizing electric motors on each wheel, this vehicle reduces pollution to zero. This is why P.F.U.V transports only one person and folds itself for parking. The chassis is made out of high tech materials, metal ceramics, each hole in the structure is calculated for reducing weight to a maximum without sacrificing the chassis strength.

Inoda+Sveje is an industrial design company who has successfully redesigned our contemporary bicycle. Bike 2.0 is a remake of our best personal transportation with uncomplicated technology at your fingertips. This bike has been designed with in-wheel motor and in-crank generator, this is why there’s no need for bike’s chain. You can use it as a normal bike, without the battery, or with the supportive battery hidden inside hydro-shaped aluminum. The design is meant to be contemporary in aesthetics and ethics, a symbiosis of form and technology, modern and historical, Bike 2.0 will use standard wheel and forks, because it just makes sense, but this also gives you the possibility to personalize your Bike 2.0.

Exocar is a concept transportation unit that enhances the user’s capability to travel through his or her environment in a more flexible and natural way as opposed to traditional means of transport. Whether you want to run, walk, roll or drive, this transportation unit will let you to move the mode you want to move. The vehicle has four wheels and, can fit and adapt the body of the rider easily in an effective way. When the user decides to drive it vertically, it will stand on its rear wheels and can run keeping you standing. The vehicle features a removable windshield for the driver to protect from wind and rain.

Toyota Winglet Personal Transport Asistant

Toyota Winglet is a prototype of future personal transportation, Toyota motors has come up with their version of walking assistant. Named as Winglet, it’s a personal transport assistant and is ridden in standing position. It has an electric motor, two wheels and an internal sensor for monitoring the user position. The unique parallel link mechanism allows the users to go forward, backward, and it turns by a simple shift of body weight, thus it comes handy even in crowded places. It ensures stability by making power adjustments and sure is one good walking assistant and suits the purpose for moving around safely and freely. Innovation in personal transportation is good, but this kind of transport will make our generation less walk and fatter.

Sada Spokeless, Foldable Bike Without Sacrificing Its Dimensions for Portability

Not wanting to reduce the dimensions of the bike, Gianluca Sada has designed a spokeless folding bike, Sada Bike. Realizing the concept of folding bike usually focuses on reducing weight and dimensions that usually lead to smaller sized bike, Sada feels that small frames and wheels only means expense of stability just for the sake of compactness and portability. The smaller size of the frame sacrifices rider position while driving while the smaller wheels are affected by variations in terrain. These conditions are not present with traditional bikes, however, the rigid chassis makes them inflexible during transport on public transport.

Sada Bike aims to provide you with a standard bike yet can be transformed into compact unit during transportation. Its 26-inch wheels don’t have spokes thus creating minimum size when folded which can be done in single movement. The packaging container can also function as a backpack, pretty cool heh?

EXO – Exoskeletal Foldable E-Board by Fraser Leid

EXO is concept foldable e-skateboard. The name itself is a shortened form of “Exoskeleton”, describing the aesthetic behind the E-boards construction. It takes the interpretation of a personal e-skateboard and turns on its head, the board has been designed with intention to become world’s first foldable electric skateboard. Not only it looks unique but also highly functional like you’ve never seen before.

Simple to understand at a glance and highly intuitive when being used, the rider simply depresses and pivots the boards individual pedals, which in turn operates the two 150W motors located at the base of each wheel. Acceleration, braking, and steering can all be done by your feet. The board is able to determine which foot is placed in the front, and can change the orientation of the electric motor’s quickly to accommodate. On either side of the wheel is an inlet fan for cooling the electric motors and an outlet vent to let the hot air escape from inside the wheel. This is a new interpretation of air-cooled technology.
