It is pretty difficult to create a redesigned product for brands with such a big history. It would be a great challenge and responsibility to try to redesign Vespa scooter that’s been here for almost 70 years. It’s a well-known brand with increased demand for modern world, keeping this in mind, the designer wanted to design more ecological and more economical modern scooters with Vespa Plus ES.

Futuristic Toyota FCV Plus Concept Car Uses Compressed Hydrogen as Its Power Source

Toyota has debuted several concept cars during Tokyo Motor Show 2015, one of them got our attention due to its futuristic design. Toyota FCV Plus is a futuristic concept car created with future hydrogen-based society in mind, compressed hydrogen has a higher energy density than electricity, it can be generated from wide range of raw materials. Hydrogen is a promising future energy source, keeping this in mind, Toyota envisions a sustainable society where hydrogen energy is in widespread use through this concept car. The main goal of this concept car is to add an all-new sense of purpose to the automobile by turning fuel cell vehicles from eco cars to energy cars.

Aside from having its own hydrogen tank, Toyota FCV Plus can also generate electricity directly from hydrogen stored outside the vehicle. This hydrogen then transformed into a stable source electric power for use at home or on-the-go. when you don’t use the car as a transport, you can share its power generation capabilities with communities, create an organized local infrastructure.

Plus Pendant Light by Andy Zhou

The Plus Pendant prototype is a fully functional ceiling mounted OLED luminaire designed to showcase the future capabilities of Organic LED such as its thin, surface based light and flexibility.

The OLED frame flexes up and down to change the characteristics of the light, ranging from an area light to a spot light. This is unseen mechanism is achieved by clever use of magnets and tensile wiring, driven by a motor and ball screw. A tablet app controls the luminaire via a Bluetooth connection.

Function
The OLED panels are mounted on a flexible frame which flexes up or down to change the conical characteristic of the incident light into either an area light, directional light, spotlight or anywhere in between. The thickness of the arms measure in at 5mm at the fattest section of the arm. This razor thin profile really accentuates the film-like qualities of OLED technology. The arms flex with the help of an internal motor, magnets and tensile cables to drive the annulus up the steel column. This gives the illusion of an invisible mechanism shifting the state of the Plus Pendant.

Control
The light can be controlled via a Bluetooth paired app on a smartphone or tablet device. The app has two modes: automatic and manual. In automatic mode, the Plus Pendant cycles through five programmed sequences. In manual mode, the user can specify their desired position and brightness.

Ferrari Motorcycle Helmet Features Genuine Leather Trim and Embossed Ferrari Logo

As an honor to the momentous Maranello tradition, NewMax introduced the all-new Ferrari style helmet. Making the helmet more abrasion-resistant as well as easier to clean is the magnificent satin finish aluminum plus metalized thermoplastic detains adorning the periphery of the padding. Adding the ideal finishing touch for this alluring design is the genuine leather trim plus the embossed Ferrari logo. While the helmet’s outer shell is created from sophisticated thermoplastic polymer with high gloss scratch-resistant finish, the visor is fabricated using injection molded scratch-tolerant polycarbonate, thus offering exceptional visibility in all conditions. PLUS! Concept Vehicle for Future Megalopolis

The PLUS concept has derived from the reflection about the maintenance of the future megalopolis in four different ways, ecologic, economic, social and operational. This customizable vehicle will let you buy exactly what you want to buy and can add your required components to customize it as per your choice. The base of this vehicle is an auto-structured rolled surface that offers possibility of expansion to the vehicle. This type of structure is also used in the seats so that they can be compacted when not in use. Each corner of this concept includes a power module containing a tire, lights and an electric motor with battery which lets the platform roll or unroll. Like Nintendo wii, a wireless control is used to control this compact vehicle of 1.1m x 1.65 m only by kinetic recognition.

Dodecaplex Space Ecosystem – “Revamp the Future”

Gazing into space has always generated interest and longing in humans desiring to learn about it, to know it, and with each day that passes, we are closer than ever to realizing interplanetary travel. However, the arrival to other solar systems has always been curtailed because of distances and current space motor technology, sustaining our desire to discover new frontiers anchored to our home planet.

The Dodecaplex Space Ecosystem is a project conceived to solve the current needs for space exploration, focusing on: avoiding dependency on Earth’s resources, adaptation to new technologies, and maintaining life. The Spacecraft will act as a future place of residence and method of transportation to other planetary systems. Various concepts are utilized in the creation of such a complex and sophisticated platform for space living and transportation. Applying membranes as functional units, separating spaces, protecting the Station from the exterior, we will maintain life.

Do you want to know what happen when helmets get the golden touch from Philippe Starck? Well, we think Starck makes them look elegant but also fragile. Checkout Giro by S+Arckbike Helmets here, they are the result of collaboration between Giro Sport Design and Philippe Starck.

Starck was inspired by the world of motorcycles, he also believes to infuse certain codes with that of EAPC in the design. EAPC helmet requires ergonomics that resemble motorcycle, a 45km/h EACP approved helmet has to have a full visor in order to protect rider from cold or other various projectiles.

Sun Powered Water Rescue Craft for Lifeguards

Ross Kemp, a British designer, has designed electric powered Water Rescue Craft to help lifeguards rescue people easier. You can say that we already have jet skis and powerboats, however, they are the kind of watercrafts which are fuel thirsty and expensive. This project offers affordable electric alternative that takes advantage of the sun to power itself, so you don’t need to fill the gas tank every week. The team has done great interviews with many trainers, lifeguards, supervisors, boat designers, marine engineers, and even a rocket scientist, all these were done to ensure they design the watercraft especially for beach lifeguards.

Aside being a pollution free, the powerful electric motor can save lifeguard’s valuable energy in patrol and rescue. Lifeguards can easily recharge the power while sitting on the waterline at the ready. Currently, this project seems to progress so well, each prototype gets a little closer to what will eventually be manufactured for everyone to buy. It is able to reach a top speed of 15 miles/hour, but hopefully the commercial ready unit will be capable of much higher speed.

2014 Bugatti 12.4 Atlantique Concept Car by Alan Guerzoni

2014 Bugatti 12.4 Atlantique Concept Car is a design study by Alan Guerzoni to visualize the future of Bugatti cars if it had been stayed in Italy. You can read his explanation below.

Bugatti Veyron in an amazing supercar and technically could one of best of in the World, but in my opinion there’s a lack of passion. My question is: what if, 15 years ago, just after the EB110, Bugatti Automobili has been rested in Italy? This is the result, a future projected car inspired to an important ancestor: 1935 Type 57sc Atlantic coupe

This is a coupe inspired to 1930s streamline design, so has suicide doors, fenders separated from body, a very long bonnet, a low and aerodinamic tail, bi-color livery and a chrome line that splits the full body in two symmetrical halves. Lights use led technology. Third stop light is mounted on a fin on the roof. On top of each front fender is mounted a chromed fin: frontally it hosts signal lights, at the opposite a rear view camera that replaces side view mirrors. Materials used for cockpit are top quality leather, mahogany, aluminum and carbon fiber. In renderings you can see two different exterior trims:

  • “Sport”, with 8 spokes rims inspired to Bugatti type 35
  • “Classic” with full chrome rims inspired to Bugatti type 41 Royale, and rear wheels streamlined.

Piqnique : Cutlery Leather Holder by Jenny Hsu

Piqnique concept has won the first place of the Parsons the New School for Design competition. The brief was to transform leather off-cuts into cool retail worthy products for both home and office, and Jenny Hsu’s work nailed it. This competition marks the 3rd year in a row where Poltrona Frau, Italian manufacturer, has sponsored coursework at Parsons. Students had been given 7 weeks to design and develop prototype of their products.

Piqnique is an extension of your domestic dining experience for on-the-go situations, you don’t have to leave your eating rituals even though you are away from home. It keeps your silverware and napkin neatly in a leather holder, perfect for a picnic at the park. When unrolled, Piqnique also functions as a placemat, cool heh?

μcar Electric Vehicle Typology by Dr Lino Vital Garcia-Verdugo

μcar (read : mjukar) is an electric vehicle typology for the city as part of this automotive designer PhD research. The μcar is a feasible alternative to car within cities (reducing typical problems linked to pollution, pedestrian safety and traffic congestion).

The main goal of the μcar is maximizing adaptability for different urban scenarios and individuals, while improving the feasibility of existing electric powertrain technologies. This double goal translates into an exposed vehicle architecture that is both modular and lightweight. Moreover, this city car would be road legal too (quadricycle, categories L6e and L7e), with a body structure that would equal the levels of protection offered in conventional cars.
