PIT IN : A New Life Style of Bicycle

No more worries for having to hunt for a place to have your lunch at the park, after parking your vehicle. Just hook your bicycle into the Pit In, a groundbreaking parking space meant for bikes. The Pit In concept is simply awe-inspiring which lets the user park the bike and use bicycle seat to sit on, providing the user with a table surface to have his/her lunch. Sitting on the bike’s seat, the user can do anything, be it checking emails using laptop or having a fresh cup of coffee. This exceptional concept replaces the conventional chair with a two-wheeled form of transport. Collapsible Bicycle by Kevin Scott

It’s not often that I could see such a revolutionary design yet it is not just a concept. This bike design from Kevin Scott is a bendable bicycle that you can literally wrap around a lamp post or a pole. It certainly will stop thieves from targeting your bike. The young Industrial Designer used a ratchet system built into the frame of the bike to make it possible to wrap the bike around a pole. The bike bends to lock onto itself, there’s no need for a chain, a regular bike lock will be able to secure the frame and both wheels. His main objective was not just to secure all bike’s components within the lock, but also to allow the bike to be stored in small spaces. A very cool bike design, indeed!

Bicycle Design for People with Disabilities

Bicycle designer Gavin Smith has come up with a new bicycle design that will help people with disabilities to ride the bicycle independently. Sometimes disabilities like cerebral palsy can affect the basic motor functions such as balancing which results in their inability to ride a regular bicycle. The bicycle is designed such that the supports automatically allow them to balance and operate the same effortlessly. The design also instills confidence so that they can ride the bike without any assistance. Overall this is a good effort for community development and a nice thought which is a welcome change from all those high end concept cars.

Many of us carry our hearts up our sleeve, how about your means of transport? If the design developed by Chang Ting Jen is to be seen, he has designed a cycle what we can call as the Backpack Bicycle. As per the designer, with more and more emphasis being given to the public transport system, it’s not physically possible to explore a city depending solely on such a transport system and that is where his invention comes handy. It weighs just 5.5kg and also doubles up as a hand cart whenever necessary. As per the designer the weight shall come down once the metal parts are replaced by plastics. So just think about it, you are never far away from exploring new places.
