Torchia Solar LED Lamp/Charger for Emergency Situations

Designed by Hakan Gürsu, Torchia Solar LED Lamp/Charger offers portable emergency flashlight that uses solar energy as its main power source. Just like handy flashlight, this concept device fits several needs in both multiple usages. Charged by photovoltaic panels in four wings, Torchia produces energy without any dependency on other energy systems. Suitable for outdoor activities, it charges devices via USB.

Created as a multipurpose tool that is light yet robust, it is a lifesaver in size of an A3 paper. Torchia is also efficient in emergency situations, it can be used as a flash light for warning such as in the event of a car accident or natural disasters. It can be stuck onto soft ground with its foldable stakes at bottom. The main system continuously charges itself and produces energy with photovoltaic panels on four wings, the panels are two sided and other side of a panel is a reflective surface. It consists of 7 LED lights of 3.5 watts, 2 batteries with 24 watts DC, and 2 USB outputs.

Life-Light Directional System Leads People To Safe Shelters In An Emergency Situation

During emergency situation, Life-Light directional system leads people to safe shelters through balloons that inflate from streetlight poles. It will display the most efficient route in disaster situation to ensure we can safe as many people as we can. Usually in unexpected emergency system, vulnerable people are usually those with limited ability to respond quickly such as elderly people, disabled people, and foreigners who don’t know really know about the city area. Most of the time, all roads and telecommunication systems are down and emergency information are only available through normal channels, it would be really difficult to navigate to shelters which can lead to mass panic.

In the event of disaster, center service system can activate Life-Light directional system to alert everyone in the affected area. The system inflates balloons around streetlight poles to inform people about the fastest and efficient route they can take to get to the shelter. It works by flashing light on/off and emitting a sound alert. It features dual communication modes that allow both visual and hearing impaired people to understand the message. Equipped with smart technology, this directional system is able to update the route just in case if the route is blocked by a collapsed building and lead the people to the next closest shelter point.

Tinkerball Life Rescue Device for Individual Escape From a High-Rise Building in An Emergency

We all remember 9/11, it was a horrific tragedy for both country and civilians. Attacks, natural disasters or tragic accidents can happen any time, all we can do is to stay prepared all the time. Tinkerball Life Rescue Device concept is an individual escape equipment inspired by 9/11 victims, it can be used to escape from a high-rise building in an emergency. Although people usually try to escape using an automatic descending life line, however, it’s mostly impossible for many people could escape in an emergency situation. This is because automatic descending life lines are installed in specific locations and there are not many to be used to save everyone, also imagine what could happen when a lot of people rush toward one location at the same time.

Tinkerball Life Rescue Device is an innovative rescue equipment to complement the limitations of automatic descending life line to guarantee your safe escape. You can easily choose the location to install Tinkerball, everywhere on solid structure. Hopefully it can be standard safety equipment in life-or-death situation.

Earning its name from the roman god of the sun, the Apollo E-Bike expresses the identity of the Solsonica brand trough the chromatic composition and the logotype featured on its main frame. The “Italian Flag Badge” reinforces the national origin, assuming the Apollo as an unmistakable Italian Design product. Designed for a daily urban use, Apollo E-Bike introduces an innovative folding system, easily adapting it to any situation where space economy matters.

Equipped with a detachable 260Wh LiFePO4 battery, a 250W In-wheel Motor and a Dynamo (for energy recovery), Apollo E-bike is able to reach a top speed of 25km/h with a maximum range of 60km in full-electric mode. One button click away and its user can choose between two other modes (Hybrid and Pedal) extending the overall range.

FloodHopper : A Self Inflating Life Raft for Flash Flood Disaster Areas by James Barford

The Floodhopper has been designed for flash flood disasters areas. Its main features that make it different from other rescue boats, is that it can be inflated from inside the home or the occupied building. This life raft is capable of feeding through narrow stairways and doorways, enabling the victims to escape in safety without entering the cold flood waters. It can be inflated using a small compressed air canister, and automatically inflates like today’s lifejackets. The user then uses the supplied folding paddles to maneuver through debris and onto open water.

The main goal would be that a whole community that lives in a high flood risk zone would have Floodhopper within their home, for those just in case situations. These rafts would then link together as a modular ‘train’, so the emergency services could then pull them to further safety if needs be.

1. Embrace Infant Warmer by Linus Liang (United States of America), Naganand Murty (India), Rahul Panicker (India) and Jane Chen (United States of America)

Each year, there are around 20 million babies born prematurely, and 4 million of them die. Babies’ lives can be used by providing them with thermal regulation from incubators. However, traditional incubators are expensive and required electricity which usually not available in urban/rural areas. Embrace infant warmer is a smart and cost-effective technology that provides heat to an infant at a constant temperature to fulfill a condition for survival. It’s been carefully engineered to maintain baby’s temperature at consistent 37 degrees for around 4-6 hours even without electricity.

2. PURE by Timothy Whitehead (United Kingdom)
PURE is the answer of how to get clean drinking water in the most hostile of conditions. After traveling to Zambia, Timothy realized that how difficult to get the clean water there, mostly children die each year due to contaminated drinking water. Timothy has designed a device that can provide clean drinking water in just under 2 minutes by taking advantage of ultra violet light to sterilize the water without any weird taste. PleuraFlow Active Tube Clearance System by Carbon Design

Standard chest tubes are meant to clear off clots. At times, it becomes difficult to clear off the clots, especially within the body. In order to cope up with this inevitable situation, Clear Catheter Systems projected a system, which would allow clots to be cleared off without breaking the sterile. After a great team effort by surgeons of Clear Catheter, PleuraFlow Active Tube Clearance System was invented. This device incorporates a metal loop inside the tube in order to keep the chest tube clear. The open loop allows easy flow of fluid and is extremely effectual at removing clots. PleuraFlow makes use of a wire loop in order to clear off the inside of the tube mechanically. By hastening recovery times and cutting down expensive complications, the utilization of PleuraFlow apparently reduces the price of recovery from important surgeries like heart and lung surgeries.

CAS Clean Air System Saves Even The Future Life Of The Firefighters

After completing the entire life protecting people from fire incidents as well as many other emergency situations without thinking about the potential risk they are taking with their life, what we give a firefighter in return? A crest or maybe a medal along with a letter of appreciation, some claps and most over, the higher risk of several lethal cancer types specially testicle cancer and prostate cancer. Even more, we leave them in a more potential condition to have children with congenital heart disease than general people. Is that really we want? Of course not.

CAS is an air cleaning mask concept that has been specially designed for firefighters with the ability to filter particles smaller than 2.5 microns which can be most commonly found in burning spots and are the most hazardous for human health. Moreover, this innovative mask facilitates the firefighter to communicate with others through voice amplifier and transparent window. CAS features a tube that automatically kicks compressed air in as soon as it detects a sudden increase of the carbon monoxide level with the help of the carbon monoxide meter inside the mask and triggers a signal to notify the firefighter about it. If the level goes too high to handle, it starts feeding the firefighter clean air from the tube placed in the backside of the neck to ensure smooth breathing. Besides, the mask can be used parallel with a helmet through the easy to attach and remove clasp.

1. Rescue Ball by Inyoung Kim, Sohyun Yoon, and Kyeonghan Jeong
Existing life saving tubes are difficult to throw far away due to its structure. Rescue Ball has been designed to carry this life saving tube inside where users can easily throw it away more accurately. Upon an emergency, if one pulls the ring of the ball, the tube folded inside will turn into a form of lifesaving tube swelling up in a method of CO2 expansion.

LIFELINK Offers Comprehensive Communication Alternatives For Extreme Rafting Guides

If an accidental situation takes place when you are rafting on the Colorado river in the most remote and mountainous region, what would be the first thing that would come to your mind for calling emergency support? LifeLink Modular Shelter for Various Disaster Situations

Community values are the main inspiration of the LifeLINK Modular Shelter. Each of them is prepared of 1000 denier nylon walls with self skinning foam. During manufacturing, the shelters are vacuum packed. So when the parcel is ripped open, it inflates itself slowly. Then multiple units are zipped together through side flaps in order to form bigger units and a Velcro and a plastic sheet covers it. By doing this, it generates a central “sunroom” and people of the smaller units can access it.
