The feet first ladder safety system addressed two main issues; ladder slips and angle control, which was inspired by the frequent accidents happening due to slipping the ladder base. The device attaches with the ladder footing, allowing increased friction and greater control at the ladder base. The grip has been specially designed to replicate the adhesive attributes of gecko feet for increased friction, even in damp surfaces. The grip is made of gecko synthetic adhesive polymer, which comprises millions of tiny contact hairs named setae, able to adhere with anecdotal surface textures. The adjustable feet height will allow the users to place it on uneven surfaces with maximum efficiency.

This innovative caravan was designed aiming creating something exceptional from the plain boring white boxes around and to recapture some individuality yet have the minimum resemblances to identify it as a caravan to potential buyers. The design is inspired by 50s style and highlighted by whitewall tires, wheel covers, the sleek airstream shape, aluminum band and shady windows. The modern and sophisticated interior features a separate bedroom located above the living area operated by electronic pop up roof and a movable ladder allows accessing the bedroom located at the end of the kitchen. Moreover, a standard sized bathroom, a hygienic kitchen and a fold down rear docking area have made the caravan really an extraordinary place.

Although the Modular Recycling Bin is designed in a traditional and simple shape, it still offers the user a wide range of modern and necessary functions. Recycled materials have been used to produce the bin and the most wonderful feature is its three adjustable interior compartments. These compartments are made of plastic, glass and tin, and acts like a water bladder that can change size according to the inserted items in the individual compartments. Other noteworthy features of this bean are large wheels, extend-able handles, step-to-open lid, interior rinse function, extend-able interior space and forth slot for recycling cardboard. Many of the current recycling problems will be solved through this cool stuff.

The new conceptual design by Elliot White, a New York based architecture student as improvisations over the Queens Museum of Art has some interesting facets to it. The said building will be constructed using the lattice structure and after covering the layer with concrete, a plastic bag will be placed as a support for hardening the concrete during construction. The design will be raised off the ground, which creates an area for public space underneath the design wherein there is flexibility so that one can organize events even when the museum is close.

Inspired by the design of a tree, this Matching Tree or Tree House is very useful concept for a librarian. It is shelving unit with a ladder built in to the bookcase in order to have all the books within one’s reach. One can easily adjust or extend ladder from floor to ceiling to reach to the higher shelves. This design submission came from Kuan-Sheng Wu, take a look at the V-shape of this concept, it assists to balance the weight of the bookcase and also protects it falling during an earthquake. The whole design attaches to the ceiling with the help of round discs that makes it completely freestanding. The Matching Tree is also one of IDSA 2008 finalists, congratulations !
