It can be easily moved from one place to another and it will alert the recycling agency about its exact current location so that they can organize their pickup routes accordingly when the bin is full.
The Expandable Recycling bin features a low starting and increases its height gradually with the wastages, allowing effective space management and low drop for brittle electronics. The facility manager of an apartment or office can have a visual feedback through the expansion and a maximum size bin denotes it needed to be emptied. It features a RFID locking system that ensures only valid residents with a RFID tag can open and use the bin. Besides, there will be a designated person with a special access tag to unlock the wheels. Biopregs, an eco-friendly bio-composite is the main material that has been used to create the two major parts of the bin. Cautious emptying in the pickup-vehicle has been ensured by placing a reusable bag in the bin which is lifted out with a crane. Earlier this year, Toyota and Royal College of Art Students (RCA) have launched a creative partnership to promote innovative design for urban living, using Toyota’s new iQ city car as the inspiration. Students were asked to create an item that reflect the concept of ‘intelligent urban living’.
Yusuf Muhammad, was the winner of Living Room category and joint overall winner. His Yu Type design sits on the computer keyboard and allows ‘hunt and peck’ two fingered typists the opportunity to increase their speed and confidence. He is now thinking about developing the idea and hopes to include features like spell checking and predictive text to increase its appeal. Judges praised the way he addressed a social issue of an aging population within the urban context.

The Helios system is an automatic lighting system designed to help the elderly live a healthier life through healthier lighting. According to experts, the two major health problems facing the elderly today are falls and bad quality of sleep. The products required for the system are a wall sconce, night light and a system-specific light switch. To address these two problems, a dual-stage approach is required. First, a night lighting system utilizing motion sensors allows seniors to move around at night without having to turn on the bright primary lights. Second, a series of daytime lighting therapies helps readjust the body’s clock so that seniors can get to sleep at a healthier time and sleep through the night more comfortably and soundly.

The equipment costs $130 but it is sold without on-board memory.
