The RollTop is a flexible notebook concept that can be folded like a roll of paper allowing the user ultimate convenience of carrying and storing it even in a congested place. It features a 17” flat-screen OLED display when fully rolled out with the multi-touch facility that will offer the ease and functionality of that of an iPhone. Also, when required, it can be folded into a 13” smart tablet pc. Aside from the touch-screen controlling, it features full fledged keyboard like conventional notebooks with which convenient typing can be performed. When folded, this compact notebook takes the size of a water carrier and can easily be hanged over the shoulder with a hanging belt.

Portable workbooks with various features and brands are ever-increasingly popping up everyday and designers are still looking to introduce more functional gadgets. Smartbook is a concept design by Freescale who has specially made six prototypes with a wide range of features. These modular mini-notebooks are based on ARM processors and emphasize on enhanced super-long battery life in order to fit in different usage patterns. These compact smartbooks, with brilliant look, durable made and great functionality, will meet the growing need of handy ultra-portables with all the required attributes and ambience. These concepts didn’t get a hardware version yet but are expecting to adapt quite a big part of portable gadget markets.

The Pocket Yoga is a concept netbook by Lenovo that looks like it has been exactly designed to fit in a pocket and Lenovo claims it as a back pocket notebook dedicatedly for males. However, it is still just a concept, but the dazzling ultra-widescreen and touch sensitive display has really made the notebook an extraordinary piece. Additionally, the display can flip around when you want your notebook in a tablet mode. The keyboard is deigned keeping the ease of use in mind for the users. The belt clasp system is another noticeable feature since the belt will be able to turn into a mouse.

Adam Brodowski from USA has designed “Sook”, a wireless kitchen assistant concept that displays and shares different recipes and allows you to connect to your social networking websites with the help of internet access on this device. “Sook” uses a series of sensors to sense what food is kept nearby or on its cutting board. Apart from measuring weight and moisture, it also includes an electronic tongue that tastes and examines food so that all the ingredients can be mixed in a better way. This device is waterproof and be washed like your other utensils. Pretty futuristic concept, especially with “electronic tongue”, very cool. Just buy your favorite food from restaurant, put it near Sook, and voila … you will get the secret ingredients and you can share it with your friends automatically.

A lot of concept gadgets are coming up primarily to utilize the human senses. Of course the sense of touch is what is being utilized the maximum with many touch screen devices being developed. When almost every latest phone is touch screen can laptops be left behind? An Italian company V12 design has devised ‘Canova’ which is a dual LCD laptop, which is yes touch screen. Though the design is more than four years old, the company wants to take this a step further by introducing the second generation laptops of the same series. It is working on the device to support multi touch and also fit in the microphone to enable voice commands. They claim that the model should be in the market by 2010!
