In order to meet the demand of aggressive future city lifestyle, Aeolus hybrid subcompact vehicle was born. This electric vehicle concept was designed under supervision of Chengdu Gaoyuan Automobile Industry Co.Ltd, a brach of Geely. It is a lightweight urban mini-crossover electric vehicle with capacity of 3 people and speed up to 120km/hour.
The main objective of Aeolus hybrid subcompact vehicle project was to develop a new energy efficient vehicle suitable for future city space that would be getting smaller and smaller yet with very affordable price. After making an extensive research, the automotive designer decided to design a sporty and aggressive car for future young consumers to answer the future needs of urban mobility.

Mercedes Benz SILk is a degree project of Hyoungsoo Kim, a transportation designer. Based on today’s technology where cars are headed at, in the future electric cars would dominate the road. Therefore, this designer decided to create a new and distinctive brand image for Mercedes without losing the connection of existing Mercedes design. At the same time, the final design of the car should aim at improving the pedestrian safety aspect from the car itself. The name of this vehicle was inspired by the softness, elegance, and mystery as well as the lightness of silk material.

Developed by using the example of the compact, transport-oriented city state of Singapore, Gemini is bridging the gap of its future infrastructure plan – creating a complete integration of personal mobility in both the private home as well as Singapore‘s expanding public transport. By using Singapore‘s unique social foundation of central allocated housing by the Housing and Development Board as a new instrument of car sharing, Gemini future mobility vehicle is bringing together the resource saving benefits of shared infrastructure with the amenities of personal property.

Here are the top 25 concepts from Electrolux Design Lab 2011. The concepts have been chosen from designers all around the world, where each of the designs offer smart and interesting solutions for future living. Eight finalists will be announced later this July where each will be invited to present their concept to a jury of expert designers.
1. Robo TAP Cleaner by Gyu Ha Choi (Handong Global University – South Korea)
Robo TAP Cleaner is a smart robotic vacuum cleaner where you can set a specific area for cleaning. The IPS system aligned with a simple remote control attached to the shoe or slipper of the user to over-ridden the automated cleaning. Just by tapping 2 times on a dirty spot, Robo TAP will be directed to that area, while 2 more taps will cancel your order. Three taps will return the vacuum cleaner to the regular cleaning area. Smart heh?


2. EcoWash Dinner Set by David Stockton (Massey University School of Design – New Zealand)
EcoWash is a great dishwasher to use when you don’t have electricity, such as boating, camping, or countryside vacations. Just place all the dishes into the round small washing machine, add some water and washing-up liquid, close the latch and turn the handle on the side. The interior rotates to wash all your dishes efficiently and effortlessly. When it’s finished, just open the small hatch to release the water. To dry the plates, turn the handle a few more times to create a centrifugal force. That’s really cool, eco-friendly, handy, and easy to carry around.

Epine concept car derived from a project to create a hybrid eco-friendly vehicle that is able to provide a racing track experience to its occupants while at the same time offering a new way of being in touch with the nature. The minimalist design of this car gets inspiration from racing vehicles – Formula One cars and motorcycles – and comprises a whale skeleton as a token of natural element. The major technical feature of this car is the Epine system that allows a complete seating arrangement by adopting the drive-by-wire technology to run the steering system.

Mo:Ben is a handy food container that includes a built-in film heater component that can heat up foods to a pre-heated temperature. Mo:Ben’s main mechanism of maintaining the heat is the combination of foam-filled cavity insulation and the built-in heating factor. There are two main parts of the device; one is the external box that features a carry grip, slip protective rubber base and cutlery storage, and another is the temperature sensitive substance for food preparation indication. The internal box holds the food and can be detached for convenient dish-washing. The arrangements inside the box are designed to encourage variety of food and mixing of food is prevented by different available compartments.

The new single seater electric concept car by South Korean designer Jongpil Shin is expected to take the car designing to the next level. The USP of this compact car design is that it has certain emotional elements which constitute a part of it like the wrinkle that has been incorporated into the overall styling and functionality. Even though it’s a single seater vehicle, it still can accommodate two people easily thus transforming it into a two seater but in the process the wrinkle gets straightened. It is in continuation with the last revamping that was done for the entire line of coffee machines along with the design arm of the BMW group. It has been dubbed as Saeco Xsmall, and is the smallest of its model. Overall the product has design elements of its previous products i.e. Primea, Talea & Odea. The interface of the product is quite user friendly, with a centralized knob. Also the color combination that has been incorporated by the designers is quite contemporary and surely will find many takers.

Nissan Nuvu is a concept designed to offer next generation car from Nissan with rear-mounted electric motor and lithium ion battery pack. The design of this concept car is quite unusual and small. For city use, the Nuvu’s performance is more than adequate. Across the all-glass roof are a dozen of small solar panels. Basically, natural, organic and recycled materials are used to make its cabin. The steering of the car is very direct for quickness and maneuverability in the city. No one will have any problem in crowded roads and limited parking slots with this tomorrow’s city car.
